Installation of Fabric Wall Coverings

INSPECTION: Examine material prior to cutting for pattern and color, quantity and condition. Be sure you received what you ordered as no claims can be allowed after any material is cut.

WORK SITE: Performance textiles should not be installed when temperatures are below 50 degrees Fahrenheit. The walls must be dry, free of dust and debris or any substance that may collect on the surface of the material. Use lighting that approximates the quality of lighting in the finished space.

SURFACE PREPARATION: All existing wall covering or any other materials must be removed. All surfaces must be dry, smooth, sound and clean. Use a solid color water-based primer to conceal variations of appearance on the surface.

TRIMMING: Always use a razor. After the desired length is cut from the bolt, trim the sides of the material on a table or floor, always using a metal straight edge. Trim an inch or two from each side to remove the unfinished edges. Always trim the material on the back, face side down. Use a fresh blade for every cut.

PASTING: Use a good quality, heavy-duty, clear, ready-mixed wall covering adhesive. Do not apply an excessive amount of adhesive.

HANGING: Use the butt seam method. Do not double cut. Do not reverse strips. Do not press excessively hard on the material with hands or tools. Hang three strips and stop to examine the job. Inspect or any problems. We cannot accept responsibility beyond the three strips.

The butt joined seams should be tight leaving no gaps at the seams. Do not press hard with seam roller or over work the seams. Smooth the material with a rounded edge (preferably plastic) smoothing tool. Do not stretch the material as it has a "memory" and will return to its original size as it dries leaving a space between the seams. Seams should be at least 4 inches from outside corners.

If paste gets on the face of the material, remove it immediately with clean warm water and a sponge. Dry with a clean towel.

Cut loose yarns with a scissors after the paste dries. Do not pull loose yarns.

Experienced wall covering installers should hang textile wall coverings.
